2020 Angel Award Competition
The Virus Delayed the Competition
The new deadline for submitting entries is August 21st. Conducted by the American Advertising Federation Fourth District, the 2020 Angel Award Competition will honor the very best in public service advertising created in 2018 and 2019.
Unlike the American Advertising Awards, the Angel Award competition judges evaluate the work for creativity and execution, and also consider the message and results. Work that might not have won an ADDY served your client well, and be worthy an Angel Award.
Just One Entry Has Multiple Award Opportunities
The Angel Award competition features a unique entry format, you enter a campaign just once, yet all of the individual pieces are in consideration for awards in multiple mediums. This dramatically simplified structure eliminates the need to enter in numerous categories. Each entry piece is judged on its own merits.
Submit Your Entries In a Single Public Service Category
Organization or Cause Promotion
Public Health & Safety Education
Fundraising Events & Initiatives
You may enter the complete multiple medium campaign, multiple single medium elements, or just a single piece of work. Each piece of an entry is judged and awarded recognition based on its own merits. Complete campaign submissions should include a results synopsis or case study which weighs in the Best of Show selection. (A video up to 5 minutes or text up to 350 words.)
The competitIon is open to all advertising service providers, public service organizations, and special interest causes and groups located in Florida and the Caribbean. No organization membership is required. Eligible entries must have been created and first used in 2018 or 2019.
Award Selection
Every submission is judged on its own merits.
Single creative element awards will be selected from all entries. For example: Print, Radio, TV, Websites, etc. entered as part of the complete campaign, single medium campaign, or just a single element entry. A panel of expert judges representing all advertising disciplines will make the award decisions. Work worthy of recognition will receive a Silver Angel Award and those representing the highest standards will receive a Gold Angel Award.
Award winning work will receive two Gold or Silver certificates: one for the entrant organization and one for the client. It will feature the credits for those who created the work. Winners will also have the opportunity to purchase the Angel trophy. The award-winning work will honored at an event during the AAF Fourth District quarterly conference in Ft. Myers on September 26th. A video featuring the work will be posted on the Angel Award website and an online album of winners will be published on the 4AAF social media channels.
Best of Show will be selected from all of the entries based on the creative concept, originality, execution, and results.
$125 PER ENTRY – DEADLINE AUGUST 21

Ad Day Legislative Update 2019/2020
On November 5, 2019, representatives from many of the AAF District 4 clubs visited the Capitol in Tallahassee to speak with State Representatives and Senators about issues of interest to the advertising industry. Before visiting the Capitol, Bill Williams, the AAF Space Coast’s Government Relations Chair, set appointments with the two Senators and four Representatives or their aides from Brevard County.
The lobbying day is a great opportunity to see how our State government works from the inside. We had briefings from Jack Hebert, the District 4 lobbyist, and Bill Williams, the District 4 Government Relations Chair the day before and day of lobbying. Each club’s representatives then headed to the Capitol to observe committee meetings and visit with legislators.
In our legislative visits with Representatives, Senators and their aides we focused on four major issues. The first is support for continued funding of Visit Florida and extending its sunset date to 2028 (SB 362 and HB 213), and similar support for continued funding of Enterprise Florida. As in past years we encouraged efforts to help the entertainment production business compete on a more level playing field with other states. This year we support the establishment of an entertainment production “Targeted Rebate Program” (SB 530 and HB 497). Finally, we discussed our District’s public service campaign, which is an awareness campaign to keep plastics out of the environment. More information on that is available at www.PlasticBrigade.com.
In addition to our November lobbying effort in Tallahassee, Bill Williams and other Space Coast members have visited locally with Brevard area State Senators and Representatives. Bill Williams made a presentation to the Brevard Delegation on September 25, 2019 in Port Canaveral supporting the motion picture industry in Florida.
Visit Florida’s funding was signed into law by Governor DeSantis, extending its funding through September 30, 2023. The entertainment industry’s “Targeted Rebate Program” did not get legislative approval.
Florida legislative committee meetings will begin in January of 2021, and the AAFSC will again be sending representatives to join other AAF District 4 leaders this winter to represent the interests of the advertising industry in Tallahassee. (NOTE: Due to Covid-19 restrictions meetings were held virtually for the 2021 legislative session.)
