Government Affairs Update – Green Guides
The Federal Trade Commission has announced the release of revised Green Guides giving marketers direction in making sure any claims about the environmental attributes of their products are truthful and non-deceptive.
Among the most notable aspects of the revised guidelines are new sections dealing with
- certifications and seals of approval;
- carbon offsets,
- free-of claims,
- non-toxic claims,
- made with renewable energy claims, and
- made with renewable materials claims.
AAF and the 4As filed comments with the Commission when the revised guides were proposed.

TheADDY® Awards is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting over 50,000 entries every year in local ADDY competitions. The mission of the ADDY competition is to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising.
Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local ADDY Awards is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie for recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local winners compete against other winners in one of 4th district competitions. District winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national ADDY Awards competition. Entry in your local ADDY competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY.
Entering the ADDY competition supports our entire industry, because the AAF and its local and district affiliates use the proceeds to enhance advertising through programs such as public service, internships, advocacy groups, advertising education, and consumer awareness.

2013 Silver Medal
The American Advertising Federation’s Silver Medal Award Program was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern. Annually, AAF member clubs bestow this honor upon outstanding members of the local advertising community.
For many local clubs, awarding the AAF Silver Medal is the highlight of their year. It enhances the image of advertising by recognizing a locally well-known person for their advertising and community involvement.
Silver Medal Award Criteria:
Silver Medal recipients are selected by a panel of judges from each local club. Judges use the following criteria when making their selections:
- Contribution to His/Her Company – The recipient must have achieved success in one of the following areas of work: advertising agency, advertiser, media or advertising service

PSA: Pillows for Pridmore
Pillows for Pridmore: Before you decide, sleep on it
In this economy, most Americans are only 2 paychecks away from being homeless. Families are losing their homes with only a tent at Wickham Park or their car parked at the Palm Bay Road Wal-Mart parking lot to live in. For most people, losing your home means packing any and all essential items like clean clothes, some toiletries, and maybe even a photo album into a crowded car with your kids. Luxuries like bulky pillows are not always an option.
The Sue Pridmore Center provides women and children a safe place to live that helps moms get back on their feet.
New residents at the Pridmore Center need a soft pillow upon which to rest their heads. When they leave, they take that pillow with them, leaving the inventory depleted for the next resident in the program.
It is the goal of the AAF Space Coast to raise 5-10 pillows per month (October, November, April, May, and June) at our Programs to help the Pridmore Center provide for our fellow Brevard residents.
Donations will be accepted as either a NEW pillow(s) or a cash donation for the AAF to purchase pillows for the Pridmore Center.
